The Society for Creative Anachronism
(SCA) is a world wide not-for-profit educational group that
recreates pre 16th Century History. Within the SCA is a
Chivalric Sport Combat System called Heavy List or Rattan
Stick Fighting, where combatants (either paired, or in groups
sometimes as large as the hundreds) battle with weapons
fashioned from rattan, and armour made of metal, hardened
leather, and a variety or other materials. Heavy List combat
is REAL, and the combatants strike each other with tremendous
force. It is a very violent, yet very safe martial art.
Other SCA activities include tournaments,
festivals, classes, feasts... (just to name a few). Many
groups meet weekly, and at these meetings there is period
dance, music, theatre, brewing, archery, calligraphy, fencing,
spinning, equestrian, smithing and more.
